On-Campus Interviewing

On campus interviewing offers you the opportunity to interview with a number of organizations for a variety of positions throughout the year. See Recruiters on Campus for a current list of employers scheduled to interview on campus.

To be eligible for on campus interviewing you must:

  • Be a UMD student or alum.
  • Register with Career Services’ GoldPASS.
  • Have a current resume uploaded to GoldPASS.

On-campus interviewing checklist

  • Check GoldPASS for the on-campus interview schedule.
  • Identify the companies in which you are interested and check interview qualifications.
  • Use GoldPASS to sign up for interview times.
  • Some recruiters may pre-select candidates to interview. These recruiters will review the resumes in GoldPASS to decide who they want to interview. If you are pre-selected for an interview by a recruiter, you will be contacted via GoldPASS to schedule an interview.

Prior to your scheduled interview:

  • Attend a Career Services' interview workshop, if offered.
  • Research the company thoroughly. Visit the employer’s web site to gather up-to-date information. Information may also be available in Career Services and the UMD or public libraries.
  • If a company schedules an information session prior to their interviewing date, you are expected to attend. This is an opportunity for you to meet with company representatives on an informal basis, learn more about the company, and ask questions before the interview. For the actual interview, be prepared with questions that were not answered at the group presentation. Attending a group presentation is one of the best ways to prepare for an interview and shows the company representatives that you are genuinely interested.
  • Career Services supplies interviewers with a copy of your resume from GoldPASS and, if requested, a copy of your transcript.
  • Arrive in Career Services at least 10-15 minutes prior to your scheduled interview time.
  • A forty-eight hour notice is required to cancel an interview.
  • Continue to sign up for additional interviews.

After your interview:

  • Write the recruiter a thank you letter. Use the business card you requested at the end of the interview to get the correct address and spelling..

Questions?

If you have any questions about the on-campus interviewing process, contact the Career Services employer relations coordinator.

Employer procedures

Participants in the job search process, whether involved in on-campus interviewing or individual searches, should be aware of and prepared for hiring procedures which have been adopted by many organizations. These procedures include: drug use screening, personality assessments or inventories, non-disclosure statements and "loyalty" contracts (with time requirements).

There are few "standard operating procedures" with respect to these issues. If you are concerned about any of them, you should discuss the procedure with the prospective employer. Some organizations have made their policy statements available to Career Services. Specific policy and practice questions should be directed to the hiring firms. The Career Services staff is available to discuss these and other employment issues with you.

Discrimination or sexual harassment complaints

Employers or employer representatives using Career Services for on-campus recruitment are required to adhere to practices consistent with University of Minnesota policies prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, disability, public assistance status, veteran status or sexual orientation as well as policies prohibiting sexual harassment. If you experience practices thought to be contrary to this policy, please report the incident to a career counselor or the employer relations coordinator.
